Maddy Brooks Loses Voice

Hebden diva and budding impresaria Madeleine Brooks has reportedly lost her voice, and has been banned from singing for at least six weeks! The precise cause of the melody-sapping malady has not yet been determined, but doctors expect her to make a full recovery. Sadly this means that she will miss the Big Weekend , and we shall miss her.

On behalf of all at the Surgery, we wish Maddy a speedy convalescence.

Pocket Messiahs reformed!

We all thought they’d gone for good, but the Pocket Messiahs are back together! The Hebden supergroup of James Bragg, Nic Chapman and John Grimshaw had fast gained a following for their CSNY esque harmonies and songwriting, but the creative tension at the heart of the band seemed to have led to their swift demise. We were surprised to hear then that Steve Fenton of Calder Studios had tempted the threesome back together for an appearance in Accrington.

Rumour has it that they’ll be on the bill on the Saturday night of the Big Weekend – if they’re still together!
