Mabel Blue

Mabel Blue is a singer-songwriter based in Hebden bridge, West Yorkshire. She writes well-crafted, intelligent songs about life, love and longing, many of which are inspired and influenced by the natural beauty of the woods and crags around her home.

Descriptions of her music include “the musical equivalent of having a Lush bath”, and “exfoliant for the soul”. Her performances have been described as “mesmeric” and her voice ranges from “angelic” through to “husky diva” thanks to a long-term love of tobacco and strong spirits. Influences include Kristin Hersh and Suzanne Vega. Her songs are underpinned by beautiful acoustic guitar played in a semi—classical style. She has a wonderful stage presence and rapport with people, which works best in intimate candle-lit venues, but she is equally at home on larger stages.

Mabel Blue began writing songs at the age of 9, but as a shy teenager would never have dared to play in public, choosing instead a patchwork career as fruitpicker, bookmaker’s cashier and archaeologist. An injury in 1997 put an end to many happy years as a digger; but during her recovery she picked up her neglected guitar and started writing and singing again….and never stopped.

In february 2005 Mabel launched her first studio album “Fall Down”. An independent artist, she enjoys swapping gigs anywhere in the country with other like-minded musicians who play music for the sheer gorgeous love of it.
